About Ryan Alaniz

Ryan Alaniz holds a Master’s in Latin American Studies and a PhD in sociology.  He is a professor of sociology at Cal Poly State University, SLO and collaborates with local and international organizations including the SLO County Sheriff’s Department, the California Men’s Colony Prison, Cuesta College, Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos International, Fulbright Program, and Engineers Without Borders.  His current writing project is a “Social Problems” textbook entitled “Social Problems: Perspectives of the incarcerated” based on the stories of people who have been through the criminal justice system.
